2023 Kunsthal Rotterdam - Acknowledge Rebuild – Wunderkammers of Rotterdam’s Colonial Past

Part of the exhibition was an arrangement of 5 cabinets, adapted by artist Dominique Latoel. In the cabinets, you could meet 5 Rotterdammers with backgrounds linked to the colonial past. There were 5 contemporary stories to be heard, complemented by artworks and family memories in photographs of the participants. A personal interview was conducted by Storyhouse Belvedere about my Dutch-Indonesian-Moluccan family's colonial past and can still be listened to via the link above.

With family photos in the background, the sculpture Salut to Moluccan ancestors formed an ode to my parents' family, who lived through the war in Indonesia and came to the Netherlands in 1950. They had to leave their lives there, to build a new life here and give their children a future.
